Looking for facts about Argentina?
Did you know... that the territory of San Luis was first populated by natives about 8500 years ago? These were nomad groups that hunted for survival, therefore were constantly
on the move. Aproximately 6000 years ago, once climate seasons were solidly established these tribes would migrate according to weather patterns. During the cold months they would move down to the covered
ground while during the hot season they would move up to the sierras where weather was milder. This knowledge was obtained by the findings of archeological remains at the INTI HUASI valley. Bones
and artifacts belonged to the tribe AYAMPITIN, direct descendants of the first waves of settlers in this continent. By 700 BC many new tribes had settled in this region, all of which introduced the raising
of animals and cultivation of food. By the time the Conquistadores arrived, all tribes were sedentary. Among the most important ones were the COMECHINGONES, OLOGASTAS and the HUARPES. Beans and corn were
their main staples. In the flatlands, a radically different group called 'the pampas' was found.
