475 kms from Buenos Aires. Here Argentine Constitution was declared in 1853
(latest reform took place in 1994) the city is linked to Paraná,
the capital of the province of Entre Rios, via a tunnel of 2397 m under
the Parana river. In the church of La Merced there is a painting of the
Virgen de los Milagros, thought to be the oldest painted in the country.
In the Museo Provincial there are exhibits related to the Jesuit missions.
Rosario in Santa Fe is one of Argentine industrial centers. The Argentine
national flag was first raised here, on the banks of the river Parana. Other
places of interest are the Convento de San Carlos de Borromeo in San Lorenzo,
a national monument and the town of Rufino, an important agricultural and
cattle raising center.
