Taxes, payments and tips
Sales Tax Refunds: At the airport you can recover the 21% Value Added Tax (VAT) paid if you have purchased local products for an amount greater than $200 (per invoice) in the shops which are members of this program. Ask the clerk at the shop if they are members of this before you purchase.

METHODS OF PAYMENT : The Dollar is generally accepted just about everywhere, foreign currency can be exchanged in banks and authorized bureaus. Also the dreaded and ever tempting ATM machine can work with your bank card, talk to your card's issuing company before leaving about this. The most commonly accepted credit cards are American Express, VISA, Diners and Master Card. There may be difficulties in changing traveler's checks outside of Buenos Aires.

TIPS : It is customary to leave 10% in cafeterias and restaurants and to tip doormen, porters, ushers in cinemas, etc.

TELEPHONE : Public telephones work with cards which are purchased in kiosks and the offices of the telephone companies, or with coins. To call from abroad to Argentina can be tricky, you have to dial the country code which is 54 and then the area code of the place you want to call. Also note that the phone numbers are 8 digits not the customary 7, If you have a phone number with 7 digits just add a "4" to the front of it. For domestic calls you have to dial 0 before the area code. For international calls you have to dial 00, the country code and then the city code.
