hello- I am about to travel to argentina in a few days. However, a friend just contacted me about a web project I`d like to work on. How common are internet cafes? Will I be able to easily find broadband internet connections? I will probably be staying in Buenos Aires, and some of the beach areas. thanks! Abraham |

Hello Abraham, cybercafes are VERY common in Buenos Aires. Possibly too in beach areas. In Buenos Aires you will find many with broadband connections and I can't see why you won't be able to connect. Last December when I was there I was able to spend lengthy hours on broadband cybers connected to Iplan, one of the best broadband providers over there. Many, are also open all night and have little coffeeshops inside so you might be able to work, play and relax all at once. It is almost a 'national habit' for argentine youth to spend hours on end chatting on cybercafes. |

How about cybercafes outside the big cities and tourist areas? |

Florence, welcome! This is a long shot. My guess is that as you move away from populated areas there won't be internet at all. I seriously doubt that there are cybercafes in small towns or places where tourism is not common. And even those areas where there is a good amount of foreign visitors you may still have a hard time locating one. If you have specific places you are visiting in the near future, I can find out for you. Just post them here. (Message edited by admin on December 31, 2005) |

Thank you, Roberto. We're just starting to set up an itinerary, so I won't know for awhile....but I've also found a neat resource on the web to find specific cybercafes by city and country: www.anyworkanywhere.com/cybercafes.html (Message edited by admin on March 31, 2005) |

Thank you, Florence. We don't really allow posting of URLs, in particular, if we are already offering such resource. In fact, our database seems to be larger at the moment... http://www.travelsur.net/cgi-bin/dbspace/dbspace.c gi |

I will be living in San Salvador de Jujuy and would like to have broadband internet connected in my apartment. Is it possible to get broadband connection there? Do you know the cost and/or how difficult it will be? The reason I would like this is to be able to use the vonage phone system using the internet and it needs broadband/DSL internet. Thanks so much for your guidance! |

Hello Marcela, I think your best bet -perhaps your only bet- will be to contact Telecom once in San Salvador. They are the only ones who offer broadband (ADSL) through arnet. http://www.highway.arnet.com.ar/HW_precios.asp I don't have a phone number though. |

I have a couple of links for finding Internet if you send me an email. One of them is for all countries including Argentina and includes many places such as the beaches as well. The other is for wifi only in the Buenos Aires area. In addition there are three places I can think of off hand that offer WIFI in the Las Canitas section of BA. One is Cafe Martinez on Libertador and Oro, another is Persicco (don't remember address) but it's in Las Canitas as well. There's also the mall in Las Canitas El Solar de La Abadia, not sure how good the connection is there though. Cafe Martinez and Persicco were very fast but don't try Persicco on a Sunday afternoon, it's packed - took us almost 40 minutes to get our ice cream. Send me an email for the other links. |

I been so lucky to travel to a lot of places in Argentina. Today even in places where the population is not more than 20000 you will find broadband internet cafes, which means every province where you go !! |

I think this should be no problem. Last month, my friend staying at Cerro Catedral in Bariloche emailed me from the hotel. Look for "Locutorios". These are small 'mom and pop' shops that offer long distance calling, internet connections and a few other services. There should be numerous in downtown areas. |

Maria, I unbanned your IP but you must read the guidelines. Are you writing from any other IP other than 201.250.6.100 and the one you are using today? When you registered there were strict guidelines as to how to behave here. I am not against members suggesting good resources but you cannot expect to drive the traffic we -us and many of the members here- created day after day, by dropping a url on your 1st post. I was generous enough to move it to the 'Marketplace' thread, yet you came back and dropped another URL in a different topic. Only after contributing on a regular basis this might be the case. It's called 'earning your trust'. But you do not have to be among us, only if you feel that these rules are just. There may be other argentine forums where you might feel more comfortable... We are working hard to create an informational place where visitors to Argentina can find honest advice. Self-interest is not going to help you here. |

I know for sure that here in Mendoza there are lots of hotspots here for WiFi. There are such places even in the open. In the pedestrian areas in downtown mendoza where you can sit outdoors in a cafe, have a lovely coffee and surf the web for free.. |
