We read there is a chance of getting Malaria in the Misiones area? We are travelling there in September for 3-4 days at the Falls. Do you think it would be OK, or should we take some malaria medicine? Some people say yes-- take the medicine.... some people say there should be no problem. So, we don't know what to do!! We are healthy. |

This is NOT medical advise, but I think the chances of being infected are fairly low. There is really no medicine that will immunize you against "paludismo" and all you can do is take the necessary steps that will help you prevent coming into contact with the mosquito. If possible, wear long sleeves, always use a mosquito spray and never leave water in containers exposed. These have been effective measures... I traveled to Brazil -were paludismo / malaria could be a real threat- dozens of times and never considered any vaccination or medicine. The only time I really took preventive measures (shots and pills) was when crossing the amazon river which took almost 3 weeks and in some ports we were just massacred by mosquitoes. |
