Hello! Would you please tell me if this itinerary is "realistic" and the best way to do it? We will be in Argentina next July (4 weeks). Please tell me if we can easily catch buses for the itinerary by bus. Montreal - BA : Air Canada BA - Colonia - Montevideo : ferry Montevideo - Salta : flight Salta - Cafayate - San Juan - Mendoza - Cordoba - Rosario - BA : bus BA - El Calafate - BA : flight BA - Iguazu - BA : flight Gracias! | ||

Chevalier, yes, it is realistic but tiredsome of course. There are ferries twice a day from BA to Colonia, every day. You should then take a bus to Montevideo for this part of your trip. Then, you can fly straight to Salta from Montevideo connecting through Buenos Aires. Aerolineas Argentinas does this route. In Salta, you can purchase a stand alone tour for Cafayate, no problem. Traveling south to San juan, then Mendoza, then Cordoba, then Rosario to finally hit BA, all by bus, is feasible but somewhat complicated in that you may have to spend time finding the terminals on each location and getting the tickets for each leg. Some routes are bound to be very easy (Rosario-BA, San Juan-Mendoza, Cordoba-Rosario) with many schedules evey day but other routes may require further planning. For this I would try to isolate a few bus companies that cover most of these destinations and try to work with them. I have researched a bit and found some common names for many of the above bus destinations like: LA NUEVA CHEVALLIER 4000-5255 T.A.C 4312-7012 / 4313-3632 SIERRAS DE CORDOBA S.A. 4000-5222 / 5252 LA VELOZ DEL NORTE S.A. 4315-0800/4314-8090 Focus on these comapanies and see if they can cover most of the ground part of your trip. Finally, yes to flying to Calafate and yes to flying to Iguazu. You may not need more than 3 nights in Calafate and 3 nights in Iguazu, so in my view, 4 weeks should be plenty of time. From the above, I would spend less time in San Juan and Rosario and more time in the other destinations. BA: 3 nights Colonia (day visit) then night in Montevideo: 2 nights Salta: 3 nights (including Cafayate day visit) San Juan: 1 night Mendoza: 3 nights Cordoba: 3 nights Rosario: 2 night BA: 1 nights Iguazu: 3 nights Calafate: 3 nights BA:3 nights ------------------ 27 nights. You still have a few more nights to add here and there. | ||
