I'm visiting Argentina in April / May 08. The plan is to fly into Buenos Aires from London, and then fly on to: Salta (4 nights), El Calafate (4 nights) and Ushaia (4 nights), then back to Buenos Aires. I don't really mind which order I do these locations in, but it seems that I can't fly to or from Salta without going through Buenos Aries. Is this correct? Is there a carrier that flies between Salta and Ushaia, or Salta and El Calafate direct? Also - I am looking to do some hiking around Salta (within 50km of the city). Ideally day hikes in good scenery (mountains?) returning to Salta in the evening. Are there hiking maps I can buy? Is this a good area for hiking? Would I need a guide? Any suggestions?
