We have around three weeks to travel from Salta to El Calafate - the distances are so huge that we are thinking of missing out the Lakes District by flying from Mendoza to El Calafate to avoid 2 days in a bus to/from el bariloche. Do you think we are missing out on something great here, or is the area around El Bariloche not as nice as Patagonia? Thanks for your help! Oliver |

Oliver, welcome! The short answer is yes, you will miss a lot. Bariloche is actually part of Patagonia which is a very vast region encompassing two countries and many argentine provinces. Although different than deep Patagonia, Bariloche still offers incredible beauty and many attractions that make the trip worth. You are right, distances are great. And if you are coming from Salta we are talking of a good chunk of territory you are covering. However, three weeks is *usually* enough time to visit Salta, Mendoza, Bariloche and Calafate. Are you doing all this route by bus/car? If so, I strongly recommend that you include Bariloche in your scheduling and reorganize part of your trip to be covered by plane. Bariloche is THAT pretty. |
