Hi Roberto, as you might remember I am in Argentina until January and I was wondering what you suggest that I visit while down here. SO far I decided that I want to go to Iguazu, Salta, Jujuy, Tucuman (I have a friend in BA who is from there), Mendoza, Cordoba, Puerto Madryn & La tierra de fuego. I was wondering when do u think is the best times to go to each place, and how long u would recommend I stay in more or less in each region. I found a trip for Iguazu in semi-cama that leaves BA on a sunday and returns on a saturday. It costs a bit less that 600 pesos and includes the Brazilian side (which I am not sure I want to go to cause I am Canadian and not sure I wanna pay the 100$) 2 activities and 4 night in semi-pension. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi - I went to Iguazu, I literally went to the bus terminal in BA, bought a semi cama journey to Iguazu for something like ARG$150/180 and when I got there I found a hostel (US12 pn for a shared room - you can do the whole ARG side in a day, which is the best bit - Brazil side is nice but dont miss the ARG side).

The hostels then guide you as to how you get to the falls etc. You literally head to the bus terminal in the local town, they have a $10peso bus that takes you there then back every hour (ARG Side - there's a more expensive one to the Brazilian side I think) - you have to pay the entrance, and you are off.

But to be honest 600 pesos doesnt sound terrible if it inculdes the bus and entrance etc. Basically, if you do it on your own you may save a couple of hundred pesos.

That would be about usd $200 or less. As Adam said, not bad if it includes lodging and transport. My only advise is that you will spend 5 days there (4 nights) and the last day will be particularly long if you depart at night. Where will you keep your luggage? What about bathrooms you can use? And lastly, if you do 2 activities in 5 days plan how you will spend your other 3 days or when you come back you will find out that instead of 600 pesos you spent quite a bit more. And this may be the purpose to begin with...

Adams' ways may look more adventurous but for sure cheaper. The falls do not need 5 days. Only do this if you can spend some additional money to visit other attractions nearby.

My husband and I just came back from BA/Igauzu. If you just visit the Argentinian side of the falls, you only need 2 days max. And I would like to say that the falls are well worth the trip. We booked a trip through baprivatetours.com and esteban was most helpful and we got a good package deal. I highly recommend a trip to the falls.

Thanks for the info... but one last question. I like the idea of buying mu ticket seperatly, and staying in a hostel, like that I am not obliged to plan ahead how many nights I want to stay, but in that case, is it possible to book the excursion seperatly once I am there? Thanks!

I believe so. You will have to find a local travel agent or some kind of guide.

I'm entering the falls from Argentina but would also like to explore the Brazilian side. Do I need to obtain a visa to go from the Argentinian side to the Brazilian side? If so, does anyone know the cost and whether or not it can be done on the spot or if I have to have it taken care of in the U.S. before I leave?

Thanks!
Will

You do need a visa. Better to get it before you arrive. Or it can be done in Buenos Aires but this will take time away from your trip. Not sure about the cost but not cheap. Sometime ago it was usd $175. You have to contact your nearest consulate.
