HOW TO TRAVEL TO ARGENTINA
AIR
Given the enormous sizes of the country, air is the ideal form of travel. Domestic
flights and flights to Uruguay leave from the Jorge Newbery airport which is
in Buenos Aires beside the Río de la Plata.
The airport tax is from $ 4 to $ 12.
BUS
The Buenos Aires bus station is on Av. Ramos Mejía 1680 near the Retiro (train)
Station. Long distance buses have toilets, air conditioning and a bar and can
be a good economical choice.
TRAIN
Much of Argentina is connected by train service. Although not the Orient Express
the trains can be quite comfortable. Companies are:
Ferrobaires (Constitución Station, tel. 4304-0028/38);
Mitre Railway - TBA (Retiro Station, tel. 4313-8060);
Ferro Expreso Pampeano (Once Station, tel. 4331-2702);
Urquiza Railway Federico Lacroze Station, tel. 4553-0044.
CAR RENTAL
All major car rental companies operate in Argentina. Although a little expensive
by U.S. standards this can be a good choice for visiting areas close to Buenos
Aires like Mar del Plata. A U.S. and some other countries' driver's licenses
can be used but to be safe an international driver's license is not a bad idea.
