Hello! My husband and I are planing to be in Argentina from Dec 24th until Jan 11. I read already that this would be very busy time of the year, and I am trying to organize our trip. I should read a lot from this forum as there is very helpful information. (Thak you Roberto and all others...:-) My husband loves to fly fish, and I would like to arrange a few days from our trip to be only for fly fishing. I searched the web a little, but I couldn't find anything for 2-3-4 days as we would like to visit a lot other places and do other activities than fishing. Also, it looks like the fly fishermen should be the richer people as these prices are much higher than guided Alaskan trip in the Arctic Refuge. Could somebody tell me if I am dreaming or it is possible to fly fish in Argentina for not more than $300 daily for two of us. Thank you for all your help! |

Yes, you can 'hire' a guide for 2 or 3 days and have him take you to flyfish in the hottest area in patagonia 7x24... but for just a little more than usd $300/day. Perhaps usd $450. Research the area around Esquel (Chubut) -Rio Corcovado-. A 7x24 guide could charge that much (discounted) for groups of 4 or more and this may include lodging, meals, permits and transfers. Because these guides know the area really well, it may not make sense for them to discount when dealing with only 2 persons, but you should still investigate. If everything else fails email erna at erna@travelsur.net and she will put you in touch with one of our guides. NOTE: you should have this set up within the next few months and don't be surprised to have to pay 100% upfront. Season starts around November and slots go fast, fast, fast. I know some guys do this on their own, but you still have to get to Esquel which may be somewhat complex (no daily flights). There is also good flyfishing in Salta and in Calafate but in both cases prices could be steep too. On your own, you will not be able to access some private ponds either. |

Well Maia Its according to who you know. There is great fly fishing in Argentina. I have friends, locals, that do it a lot. I actually do not know the best time of year. I do know that the time you are choosing is busy. A lot of people know about Argentina and more are learning everyday. It is a wonderful country to live in or vacation in. It's beautiful. I will be down there at that time of year and will show you and fly fishing hubby a real gaucho ranch, some deep sea fishing, and a ride on the range. Keep in touch por favor. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Hasta Luego Tom |

Maia, I made a small error in the email. cordobaflyshop@onenet.com.ar Also, Ernesto told me the trout season is from November to May. Cordoba is a 7 hour drive from Buenos Aires, a $25 USD one way bus ride or a short plane ride. The trout range less than 10 lbs. The monster trout are in the deep south part of the country more commonly known as Patagonia. There one notable trout river is the Rio Grande where the monster trout can be caught. |

Thank you guys! A week ago, we decided to visit Argentina this winter. I am still researching where should we go, and what should we see. As I said my husband loves to fish, and I would like to combine our vacation with sunshine that would warm up us for the rest of the Alaskan winter and some fun outdoor activities as fishing, hiking, birding, and of course wine testing and all other atractions. I know that I have to make my arrangements as soon as possible. This forum helps me a lot, and I am sure that would continue to help me to the day we get there. Roberto, the cheapest place I found is about $500 a day a person - this makes it really steep for two of us. I don't mind spending a little bit more money for a few days fishing , but $1,000 per day for two of us it is a little out of our league. I might have to send him alone, and I could stay in BA for tango lessons...:-)I will email Erna for more information Ken, I will email Ernesto, Thank you for the tip. If you ask me 10lb trout is perfect, but you guys are always going after the big fish...:-) Thank you again! I welcome any good information as anything could be helpful. |

Ken's lead is a good one. Flyfishing in Cordoba will not be as appealing as doing it at the foot of the Andes BUT in Cordoba you may have the double benefit of doing all the other activities you mentioned... mild hiking, birding and perhaps horse riding. Any biking tours? Yes, you can do this in Cordoba too. Wine tasting is better left to wine growing states, like Mendoza, San Juan, all the Cuyo region and perhaps places like Cafayate in Salta. I will double check our fishing prices for Esquel in the coming days and if I find a good deal I will pm you. |

No where in South America I humbly submit is like Buenos Aires city. And the province is pretty swell also. I love the city. I love blue water more. I am willing to sell a large piece of property with water frontage right on the Atlantic coast where there is a lot of blue water. I started to start this sentence with the words, "I would like to sell..." but as fast as I thought it I changed my wording. I do not want to sell a large piece of property with water frontage. But it is a good business decision for me and the buyer, a win win situation. What is offered for ten million today will be worth a hundred million within two years easy. It is close enough to Buenos Aires to be able to take a short drive to enjoy what is already built. But soon there will be little need to make the drive. Hasta Luego Tom |
