Hi! I'll hopefully be going skiing in Argentina from the 7/8 September to 13 September. Given that both places cost about the same (flights, accommodation and ski-hire), would Ushuaia or San Martin de Los Andes would be better? I would like a place with good(ish) skiing but as I'm a near-beginner it doesn't have to be all that good! The thing I'm debating between is the weather (it would be great to ski under blue skies) and the interest of the place itself. Is Ushuaia prohibitively cold right now? And, apart from being at the bottom of the world (a real attraction for me!), how nice/interesting is the town of Ushuaia? Lastly, the only other place I will get a chance to see in Argentina is (of course) Iguacu, if this makes any difference to your answer! Thanks so much. gareth:-) |

Hello Gareth, you can't fly to Iguazu from SM de los Andes, unless you get a charter flight. You must first get to Bariloche (by bus, only 120km)and the cost to fly to Iguazu from there is about USD $280 (roundtrip). A roundtrip ticket to Iguazu from Ushuaia is about USD $250, so not much difference. For an overall really nice skiing experience I would chose Chapelco over Ushuaia. I love the little town of SM de los Andes. However, in Ushuaia you will get to visit the National Park and a few other interesting attractions. Yes, it will be much colder. My vote goes to San Martin de Los Andes. |
