I have been traveling over the last week with little time to post. Thanks Roberto for being willing to get this thing together. I am sure you agree all are welcome, whether tripping to Buenos Aires or anyone who lives there already. If we can find a place to do a barbecue, that would be good. Any other ideas? |

I think October is mid spring there. The weather in Buenos Aries is probably good then. A saying in the states, April showers bring May flowers. In Argentina it may be October showers bring November flowres? Anyone know the normal weather in BsAs in October leaving out any possible global warming variations? |

I may be traveling over the next few days and not timely give imput. but What kind of event should we plan. A one day get together/barbeque or multi day tour whatever that includes hotel rooms for out of towners? a boat trip might be nice. a trip to a tango show. lots of possibilities. I would be interested in anything from a dinner get together to a couple of days planned event. I humbly suggest we encourage thinking out loud so to speak with nothing written in stone until a much closer date. |

Asado is the argentine barbecue. I am sure you have eaten many already... chorizos, costillitas, asado al asador, morcilla, chimichurri, molleja... any of these sound familiar? Tom, you are thinking big I never thought of out-of-towners... But yes, we can plan an extended gathering. I'd say we can start small and with low committment and build upon. For example, we can plan a Saturday or Sunday afternoon gathering at a larger cafe/pub like "Selquet" which is in a nice area -outdoors- in the fringes of BA (well not too much) with easy access and parking, large enough to accomodate many and private enough that we can feel comfortable... and take it from there. Depending on who and how many (out-of-towners, locals, travelers) this can be transformed into something else. But we are like 3 months away, no? |

Yes, they sound pleasingly familiar. Might even throw in some lomo. I think you are on the right track. And we do have some time. I am up for whatever those interested in meeting want to do. Maybe we can get some input from Jay and others to help devolope the plan. |

Roberto, My husband and I would love to come to an asado. We found an Argentine restaurant in Spain where I had my first Argentine barbeque and I never had anything so wonderful. Looking forward to meeting in October. Any place accessible via taxi is fine with us. We are there October 5-November 1. Also, congratulations and best wishes on the adoption! |

Roberto, Do count me in for the get together and asado as I too will be there from October 3 through October 29th. It will be a great day. Like Gayle mentioned anywhere within reach of a taxi is fine. Congratulations on the adoption. |

Hello all, some unexpected events have made me postponed my trip to November/early December. In a recent thread, Gayle was asking about the October meeting... are you still reading this thread, Tom? Will you be around in October for a gathering of those who can make it? How about you Michael and others? I will definitely contact some members at my arrival and try to hook up with anyone who cares. Or will start another thread here. But the fact that I won't be there in October should not stop those who would like to get together! |

Hi Roberto, I will be there from Oct. 3rd thru the 29th , so I am open and would love to attend, just let me know when and where. Since I will be in Palermo I can taxi to the location without any problems, I hope since it was mentioned that a location outside the city would be possible. |

Asado/parrilla sounds wonderful! We will be staying in Belgrano so Palermo is not far. I only know of places that I have read about in travel books. I have read about Campo Bravo, El Trapiche or Social Paraisi? Is a Saturday or Sunday better for most of us? Let's decide which day and then we can set a date in October. We arrive on October 5 and leave on November 1. Perhaps Roberto can suggest a good place? I am sure Roberto knows all the places "tourists" do not go. My husband speaks fluent Spanish. His parents were born in Buenos Aires. Roberto, I am so disappointed you will not be able to be there. You are so helpful on this forum.

One of my favorites is La Tranquera. They have a website. It is easy to get there, very close to Palermo and from Retiro/downtown... less than 15 minutes if no traffic driving through "el bajo". Just across nice parks and open area so in a sunny day you guys will have a blast. Don't forget to order: empanadas chivito al asador asado al asador You can't avoid tourists. There are just too many. But I dined here a miriad of times while growing up. However, there are so many great "parrillas" that it is hard to choose one. If I come up with another one I like I will post it here. (Message edited by admin on September 07, 2007) |

Unfortunatley I will not be able to be in Buenos Aires in October. Maybe in the fall. That does not stop anyone from getting together in October. Maybe we can have seasonal get togethers. One in the Spring, October, one in the Fall, March or April. |

Hey there! So the reservation at the moment will be for Adam+1 Gayle+1 Michael+1 Larry+1 Mobi+1 Dolores My mate Tom Anymore!? Please let me know! At the moment La Tranquera aren't taking reservations for Sunday, apparantly the date is too far away! They literally laughed at me when I called again on Saturday! So I have sent an email and will try them again today and Wed, we will have a reservation for 12 there under the name "Adam" for sure. Mobi/Michael, any problems making it on the day, call my ARG mobile, 15 5624 6924... I expect you pay for what you eat, so if you come solo/dont come etc, you shouldn't have to pay for 2! Hello my new friends, If someone invites you to their home, is it appropriate to bring a bottle of wine? I know in the US we do or either flowers. My husband has a cousin who wants to invite us over to meet the family and I would like to do what an Argentine would. Thanks for any input and see you all in six days!!!!!! :-) |

Well Gayle, Just for starters it's never a crime to bring a bottle of wine with you where ever you go! In addition, it will always be accepted in Argentina as a gift on any date and any occasion, especially a family get together! One question to ask is/will there be an asado, if so, difinitely bring a bottle (or two)! Hope this helps and wine is loved like children (in my opinion) here in Argentina.... See you on the 7th |
