We plan to spend the last week of 2007 in Bariloche, then move to San Martin for at least two, and perhaps four weeks in January. However, rather than spend all four weeks in SM, we wonder if we shouldn't travel north to the las Lenas / Valle Hermoso area. If we decide to go north, we would like to know where to stay and fly fish in the Las L and Valle H areas.

Thanks in advance,

Alan McD

Alan, welcome! Definitely visit Las Lenas. There is activity all year round and perhaps 4 weeks in San Martin de los Andes is a bit of a stretch... You can stay directly at the resort. As for Valle Hermoso, are you referring to the small town in Cordoba? If so, not too many places to choose from but this seems to be the place http://www.elcastillohotel.com.ar/eng/tourism.html .

Un millon de gracias, Roberto. I anticipate that we will take your advice and visit Las Lenas. How long of a drive will it be from San Martin to LL? W

When I Google 'Las Lenas' all I get is information re skiing, but nothing re fly fishing. Do you or any of your members have any advice re flyfishing in the Las Lenas area, to include the terrirtory between Las L and San Martin.

Again, thank you for your advice. The Argentina Fourm site is most helpful.

Kirk, it can be converted but you may be better off if you buy one down there. Mar del Plata is big enough that it can make a coffee place profitable both on season and off season. But better explore this in-depth as there are already a gazillion.

Regarding the fly-fishing in Las Lenas: While there may be flyfishing in the Las Lenas area, my guess is that is mostly lake fishing. The fly-fishing region that Argentina is famous for pretty much starts in the San Martin/Junin Area and goes SOUTH. If the intent of your trip is fly fishing I would recommend you stay in the San Martin/Junin area for a week, a week in the Bariloche area, a week in the Esquel and Chiloa area. You could go further south but it would be a bit early in the season for that area. Rivers not to miss: Malleo, Chimiuen, Traful, Manso, and the most beautiful, the Rividavia. Have fun.
