Hi, I am going skiing in Argentina for 3 weeks starting Aug 20th. I arrive in Mendoza and want to ski at Las Lenas and the various smaller resorts around the Bariloche area. I will have a car, but not 4WD. How much time should I plan from Las Lenas to Bariloche? Should I take the RN40, take a more inland route through Neuquen or go through Chile? Is the RN40 far enough from the mountains that it rarely gets snow? Thanks, Steve |

Here is one route you can take. This is just a suggestion. I haven't done it and would not know how up to date this is... Las Lenas-Bariloche: 926 km, Km 0 Las Lenas (RP 222 - 20 km asphalt). Km 20 Los Molles (RP 222 - 29 km asphalt). Km 49 Las Lenas detour (RN 40 - 30 km asphalt). Km 79 Malargüe (RN 40 - 21 km asphalt). Km 100 Intersection RN 40 y RP 186 (RN 40 - de 41 km pebbles). Km 141 Caverna de las Brujas detour (RN 40 - 3 km pebbles). Km 144 Bardas Blancas (RN 40 - 123 km pebbles). Km 267 Ranquil del Norte (RN 40 - 107 km pebbles). Km 374 Chos Malal (RN 40 - 141 km asphalt). Km 515 Las Lajas (RN 22 - 55 km asphalt). Km 570 Zapala (RN 40 - 170 km asphalt. Km 740 Intersection RN 234 y RN 40 (RN 40 - 54 km asphalt). Km 794 Intersection RN 237 y RN 40 (RN 237 - 66 km asphalt). Km 860 Confluencia Traful (RN 237 - 49 km asphalt). Km 909 Intersection RN 237 y RN 231 (RN 237 - 5 km asphalt). Km 914 Intersection RN 237 y RP 23 (RN 237 - 12 km asphalt). Km 926 Bariloche Recommendation: check the above on an up-to-date map! |

Talking about driving in Argentina ... I'm trying to find a GPS (satellite nav) system with street level guidance for Argentina but have trouble finding one. The only ones I found so far are "dummy" maps that do not support turn by turn navigation. Anyone know of anything? |
